Southcote Park Estate FAQ
Why do I have to pay a levy?
The roads of Southcote Park Estate have not been adopted by Reading council, therefore it is the responsibility of the residents to ensure their upkeep, which involves considerable cost each year.
Who is responsible for the estate?
The Trustees of the estate are legally responsible for the estate. The Committee represent the residents and provide guidance to the Trustees as to how the residents would like the estate to operate.
Both the Trustees and Committee are volunteers who give up their time each month to ensure that the estate remains a pleasant place to live.
What does the levy cover?
The level covers works on the road, verges and pavements such as:
- resurfacing the road and pavement
- caring for the trees
- maintaining the lighting
Can the levy cover cutting the grass in front of my house?
This has been investigated before and would result in a significant increase in the levy. For this reason it has been agreed that residents should mow the grass in front of their house.
When is the levy due?
April 1st each year.
How much is the levy?
In 2020 the levy was £115 per house. This may be increased from time to time as agreed at the AGM.
How can I stop other people parking in front of my house?
Residents have no right to the road in front of their house, however we do ask that, wherever possible, residents park on their own driveway in order to allow service and emergency vehicles access and to maintain the appearance of the street.
